So who says you can't fight City Hall.

We did it last night. Anyone who really knows me is gagging right now. I have avoided going to these meetings forever. Last night was my first one. The City of West Jordan wants to raise our property taxes 31%. Their real plan if to double our taxes. They already charge us a city tax on ALL our utilities. They want to up that tax. AND they want to add a new "telecommunications" tax, and tax our cell phones, and all the telecommunications in the city...i.e. the churches would also be taxed. Get the picture? The amazing thing to me is that the city has enough money to function now, they just want more more in their funds for the future. Who doesn't?

If you have an account for general funds at your bank.........let's see what would you suddenly not be able to live without? More chocolate, getting your toes straightened, having lunch at Ruths Chris?

Most people who talked said they can't afford to put gas in their cars, or food on their tables with the inflation we are living with. My sweet hubby gave a great speech. At the end he said do you just want people to eat cake? (the audience got it, but the council didn't) It was interesting to listen. One woman said she was in favor of the tax hike because she didn't want to police to go without, so she was willing to skip one diet coke a week to give him a raise. Woman get a clue, your diet coke is not going to do it for him, and the police budget is not in jeopardy...

I stayed for the budget meeting. It was enlightening. They project a possible short fall of 500,000.00 next year, yet they wanted an additional 3 million. I need to change my budget too, let's see.

The final tally........4-3. In favor of NOT raising taxes at this time... RELIEF.....

P.S. The school district is splitting, and guess who is going to have higher taxes to pay for it.......Dodged one bullet just in time to take another........
